Just cry ‘racism’, and it will go away
From the Guardian:
A secret high-level Metropolitan police report has concluded that Muslim officers are more likely to become corrupt than white officers because of their cultural and family backgrounds
[...]
The main conclusions of the study, commissioned by the Directorate of Professional Standards and written by an Asian detective chief inspector, stated: “Asian officers and in particular Pakistani Muslim officers are under greater pressure from the family, the extended family … and their community against that of their white colleagues to engage in activity that might lead to misconduct or criminality.”
[...]
The report argued that British Pakistanis live in a cash culture in which “assisting your extended family is considered a duty” and in an environment in which large amounts of money are loaned between relatives and friends
There’s obviously nothing wrong with helping one’s family, but not when it is taken so far and so extreme that it creates a culture of oligarchy and nepotism.
However, the typical answer the problem it is to deny it, bury your head in the sand and cry racism:
Ahmanrahman Jafar, vice-chairman of the legal affairs committee of the Muslim Council of Britain, said it was shortsighted of the Met to be alienating its Muslim officers at such a sensitive time.
Oh, we all know how little corruption and tribalism there is a Muslim countries and that this culture couldn’t possibly be imported. The problems is when we make ourselves believe this.

I can relate this to America. The white officer is a hero in his community and respected and is encouraged by his neighbors to be as tough as he can with criminals. The black officer is seen by many in his community is an Uncle Tom and a sellout and his family and friends are always encourage him to pull a few strings to help his cousin or high school buddy out who just got jammed up by the law. I can see how this would happen in Britain.
Sorry Mr. Nelson have to opine here, it is known that power corupts. While I too can see Umar’s point. I don’t see White police neither here nor in the UK as any less corrupt. I think what you see in the African American community here and most likely in the Asian community in the UK is a reflection of the precedent that White police have set. People follow leadership, meanwhile arrogance, hubris, and contempt for the other is rife within the law enforcement community. This is not a racial phenomenon but rather reflective of the “God Complex” that has developed within western/european culture since the rise of the western nations. This disease will continue to afflict most men of power regardless of race or culture except whom Allah bestows his favor upon.
Nay, indeed man transgresses
When he sees himself as self sufficient
Problem is that this culture is imported from overseas. It is well known in Muslim countries that police are very corrupt
My uncle is a Customs Officer overseas and I don’t think it’s fair to say that the police in Muslim countries are corrupt. Just because he owns 3 extravagant homes and has bank accounts under false names so that it can’t be tied back to him doesn’t make him corrupt.
Many times the Muslims become more preoccupied with protecting the taboo and establishing victim status than actually solving the problem.
“There’s no corruption in Islam…”
People see the difference between the theory (”No corruption in Islam”/”No racism in Islam”
and the practice (extreme tribalism, culture of bribery etc)
I think there miight be a bit of truth in this report (of course, the report may be a big lie). But I see that a lot of Asian Muslims aren’t very honest in their day to day dealings with others(even if they aren’t police officers).
And honesty isn’t an important virtue among Muslims, from what I’ve observed. So a report like this musn’t shock us. Unfortunate that Islam gets the blame, because they may be Muslims but they’re also humans. When confronted with a report like this, the Muslims lash out by saying that they are being discriminated because of their religion. If it hurts so much, shouldn’t Muslims try being a little more honest, if only to shine the name of Islam ?
Prussian Blue, you spoke with reason and balance. It’s possible to be true or false, but it’s not far-fetched.
A practicing Muslim I know in North America, from India, runs his own business. He wants to expand his business and sell groceries, minus the haram, but he refuses to consider cigarettes as haram, even though nicotine’s harm and addictiveness is known. He will not forsake that revenue. Aside from that, in his already existing business, he consistently delivers the finished product late to his buyers, not giving himself enough time to finish it and deliver it on time. He’ll promise by a certain time and date, and then have it hours late or a day late, refusing to calculate the time it would actually require and tell them that. He’s afraid of losing the sale if he does, but I explained that his adhab is poor and convinces the clientele of that area that Muslims are no different than anyone else.
This is a practicing Muslim, so I can only imagine what a non-serious Muslim would do! But Latin Americans have told me many stories of Indian/Arab/Muslims cheating them and treating them poorly.
