- In light of my last post, I don’t think this guy took his medicine before giving this insane interview. Wonder if this guy is on the DOLE like so many others who talk like him! People like this think that the West is the reason for ALL the problems in the Muslim lands and get brainwashed by these lunatics’ insane rants. Send them back before they corrupt more people. I actually like this plan for enticing many of them to go back.

- Eteraz wrote about the recent “honor” killing in the Italy. My comments on his post are here. While I obviously do not think that Islam is the problem, it is a distortion of Islamic principles that causes many of the cultural problems in the Muslims lands that hold them back.

For example: In many Muslim countries, culturally, one must “roll out the red carpet” for guests and feed them the best food in the house, even if they can not afford to do so. It is from Islam to treat guests well, however, in many cases, this is not done from wanting to actually show the guests a good time or to do good deeds, but from trying to maintain one’s status or “honor”. Losing one’s status is catastrophic

Likewise, the Islamic principle of maintaining good family ties and treating family members well got distorted into extreme tribalism where if one tribe/family member gets a management position, then he is expected to fill the positions with his family (tribe) members regardless of qualification. The importance Islam places on remaining chaste until marriage somehow became distorted to the point that entire families wait outside the bedroom on wedding night to see bloody sheets on wedding night and a previously married woman stands little chance of getting married. The Father will often parade down the streets with the bloody sheets he feels so proud that his daughter was confirmed to be a virgin. His “honor” has been maintained.

The dowry in some Muslim countries have, culturally, become so outrageously high that many men cannot dream of getting married. Why? Because the price of the dowry has been attached to “honor”.

On the flip side, when you combine all the above factors, and then there is no blood on the sheets, the Father’s “honor” is destroyed. The Groom is outraged that he has spent his entire life’s savings and even went into debt to get married only to find that there was no blood on the sheets, thinking that she was not a virgin - something that educated people know is not necessarily true. Indeed, some girls are getting Hymen repair surgery, so big deal about the blood huh? But this is when you have ”honor” killings.

How did it get to this point? The culture of denial and pretense that has developed amongst the Muslims just does not allow any critical inward thinking much less problem solving so the problems continue to get worse. And those that rail against these ills are branded “modernists” and/or “feminists” (if they are female) and hence worthy of being ignored. “No problems here”
