Five years ago today was the last day of normal life. The economy, though slowing down, was pretty good and life was (relatively speaking) pretty care free. At the very least much more light hearted. Many Muslims and Muslim organizations even supported Bush in the 2000 elections.
We went from little to no major news to so many people being killed on a daily basis that it is not even ‘news’ worthy anymore. I mean, over 1,500 people were killed in Iraq last month alone. This report says that over 62,000 people have been killed since 9/11/01.
Then on top of the daily carnage we have news of young workers getting paid less, people’s dollar not going as far, and some are saying there will be a bust in the housing market. How many people are on the brink of depression from this daily bombardment of bad news?
Then for a Muslim to see some maniac claim to speak for him/her, it gets even more depressing, but I digress
Just like many others, I’ll put up a few ‘five years later’ posts that caught my attention:
- Relationship between London’s Muslims and non-Muslims ‘better than ever’
- Relationship between Britian’s Muslims and non-Muslims worse than ever
- Muslims moving to US in ‘droves’ - I don’t know what ‘droves’ are, but I actually think that this plan is a better idea. Then those that are remaining can form an indigenous American Islamic culture free of imported cultural hangups.
- Despite fear, some Muslims aim to educate - One of the best ways to show that Muslims are ‘normal’ is to mix and mingle with the people (i.e., actually acting normal without pretentiousness). Conduct business, laugh, and talk with the people and not even necessarily talk about religion.
- Tampa woman who lost eight relatives in 9/11 attacks embraced Islam
Safia went to the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay Area in June and asked for the imam. She wanted to renew her shahadah, the formal declaration of the Islamic Creed. Safia also was out of work. The imam gave her a job managing the society’s office. The group also stocked her refrigerator and paid her rent and electricity bill
- Proud to be Muslim and American

My hand is pretty high in the air, “Meeeee!”
Me too.
I ain’t depressed but I’m mutha%^&$ing pissed and I ain’t gonna take no %^#& %&## no Mutha%$&ing more!!
Thanks for links to the articles. Amid all the negativity, I was glad to read the articles you posted, especially the women who converted to Islam after losing family members in 9/11.
I am just wondering if we will suffer the token abuse and ‘revenge’ attacks and so on like we have for the last few years. I am hoping no Masjids get bricked this year, nor hijabi’s assaulted. I also feel caught between feeling the anguish and anger at what happened on that day, and the anguish of knowing 62,000+ people have died since then, as well as countless injured, property and buildings destroyed and so on. Ya Rabb!
Dang Tariq, that buy out option is drastic. but heck it might just work

I think it would work too. Perhaps you could elaborate further. For those that have not read it yet, check it out here
9/11: the anniversary and the conspiracy theories
This week is the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, if anyone hasn’t been listening to the news or watching the calendar. It’s fair to say that the day was a watershed; it has been said that the sixties…
Five years ago today was the last day of normal life.
Define normal. How is your life totally different?
Muslim organizations even supported Bush in the 2000 elections.
Boy, wasn’t that a good idea. Shall we examine the reason why? ‘Cuz most Muslims wouldn’t vote for a Jew!! And now look where their foolish has gotten them…
We went from little to no major news to so many people being killed on a daily basis that it is not even ‘news’ worthy anymore.
People were getting killed at that time but it just worthy to some. Now it’s “worthy” ‘cuz it’s a Muslim thing (well, mainly an Arab thing cuz no one [Muslims here] really cares when it’s non-Arab Muslims gettin’ waxed.
Then on top of the daily carnage we have news of young workers getting paid less, people’s dollar not going as far, and some are saying there will be a bust in the housing market. How many people are on the brink of depression from this daily bombardment of bad news?
Dunya, akh. Pure dunya. Just worry about the Hereafter. Oh, yeah, and fast if it gets really tough.
Then for a Muslim to see some maniac claim to speak for him/her, it gets even more depressing, but I digress.
Zat iz zah reee’al deeen, bruzzer. But I digest…
Muslims moving to US in ‘droves’ - I don’t know what ‘droves’ are, but I actually think that this plan is a better idea. Then those that are remaining can form an indigenous American Islamic culture free of imported cultural hangups.
Feat of a sandy planet. Yo, if American indigenous Muslims wanna “culture” then they should develope one (oopss, maybe they already have and just need to recognize it for themselves).
One of the best ways to show that Muslims are ‘normal’ is to mix and mingle with the people (i.e., actually acting normal without pretentiousness). Conduct business, laugh, and talk with the people and not even necessarily talk about religion.
C’mon, dog. You know that’s the sleep cell!!
You have to be in society, you have to work to make society better. You have to contribute.
Amen/Amin.
And now look where their foolish has gotten them… = And now look where their foolishness has gotten them…
Feat of a sandy planet. = Should equal Fear of a sandy planet.
You know that’s the sleep cell!! = You know that’s the sleeper cell!!
Curse my mispelling hands!!
Marqas:
When I say ‘normal’, I wasn’t talking about me personally per se. Days without Security levels, terror warnings, and when one could meet their family at the airplane docking point instead of at the front of the airport. I do feel fatigue from the daily carnage. Others (Muslim and non-Muslim) just would rather not watch the news and keep up with their favorite sports team instead.
Anti-Muslim zealot bloggers who never otherwise would have been known are now prominent. Ann Coulter was an obscure “in your face” pundit. ow she makes lots of money saying things like “all Arabs stink”.
So many have been jailed here in America, people who otherwise would have been obscure are prominent
I agree on the newsworthiness of non-Arab causes even amongst Muslims is not much
