Outburst of Caring

Umm Zaid pointed out that Alia Ansari, a mother of six, was shot and killed on her way to pick up her children from school last week by some deranged lunatic.

The Fremont, CA community is showing a lot of neighborly love and respect to her family:

Though no one can fix what happened, people are doing what they can: dropping off flowers, sending up prayers, baking casseroles, donating plane tickets and money.

Some just gave of their time.

Over the weekend, Fremont Mayor Bob Wasserman visited the Ansari home, a sparse two-bedroom apartment on Glenmoor Drive, to pay his condolences.

“There’s not a lot to say,” Wasserman said. “I tried to reassure them that the community shares their grief. That this is just unimaginable.”

Many of Ansari’s siblings, and her husband, Ahmad, a mechanic, were too distraught Sunday to speak publicly. On Thursday, Ansari was shot at point-blank range as she walked with her 3-year-old daughter, Latifa, to pick up her older children from Glenmoor Elementary School.

I am glad to see that the Fremont community is rejecting the LGF-style hatred and instead showing lots of compassion to the grieving family in this situation. It is very nice to see.

A fund has been established for her children. To donate, checks can be made to the “Ansari Family” at Washington Mutual, account No. 3091558830, and Fremont Bank, account No. 55041477

  1. Salam Tariq, while people are quick to exploit this as a hate crime, the details just don’t add up for now. It all looks like a serious hit: single shot to the head, on a street, a getaway car running… who knows, maybe this is one ofthose honor killings or a mob hit? Most hate crimes are a situation of punks bumping into someone they hate or punks deciding to hit an ethnic store, mosque, synagogue or other fixed, large and imovable targets. Stalking a women to figure out her patterns in getting her kid from school is something that takes lots of planning and forethought = not your typical hatecrime.

Yes, I stayed away from the hate crime angle until more is known about the lunatic who murdered her. I am still glad to see the community rally regardless. This sort of kindness is what the LGF crew call ‘dhimmitude’
