I remember that show. I had to watch that last clip to see the Icelandic woman saying the “ffn” sound, hehe.
Discovery/BBC programs are usually very interesting like that… The ones on savants and people with autism are especially intriguing.

There are narrations that Imam al-Shafi’i used to have to put his hand over one side of a page in order to not memorize more that one side at a time, as well as other feats that many biographers thought were exaggerations of zealous followers of the Imam.
After seeing the man that “Rainman” was based on I tend to believe those reports even more now.
True, however, it is doubtful that Imam al-Shafi’i was autistic, because he had normal social relations with the rest of society, unlike what is commonly found with those with autism.
the great scholars of the past unequivocally held high faculties of intellect, but it was an intellect that surpassed mere recalling of facts, but rather an amazing ability to see the light behind the words.
