Abu Sinan - a friend of mine and resident of N Virginia - called and asked me to post this very important message. His sister in law is missing. Please pray for her safe return. His message follows:

My sister in law was coming back from work on Sunday night (9/16/07) and stopped off at a store. She locked her keys in the car and called to say that she was going to have her auto service come get her out. That is the last we have heard from her.

Cellphones can be tracked even when they are off. Specially the new ones. As long as there is enough battery power in them.

Also, check the credit cards, debit cards and bank account for any activity.

Also, hold meetings, candle light vigils etc, for raising public awareness.

Contact Texas Equu search. They are volunteers who help in search for a missing person.

We had a missing person case in our area earlier. That was of Dr. Zehra Attari about two years back. See http://www.zehraattari.com to see how we did vigils and public awareness. She was later found drowned alongwith her car in the Oakland Estuary after 43 days. I participated in this search so if you need any assistance, please contact me at iattarwala@sbcglobal.net

    Thank you.

  23. This is terrible news and I am so sorry to hear it. To say she is in my duas sounds so simple, but that is really all I have to offer. May Allah protect her and forgive her and us all.

  24. I went to school with Faten and have very fond memories of her. May Allah protect her from all evil and bring her safely home. VA is praying for her. Salaams.

  25. Asalamu Alaikum,

I just heard the news on Channel 4 and couldn’t believe it. I went to school with Faten years ago. Ya Rab, Ya Rab, Ya Rab, protect her and bring her home safely; help her parents get through this difficult time of not knowing. Faten and her family will be in my prayers. La Ilaha Ila Allah!

  26. Oh Subhana Allah,
My duaa’a are with her and the family. I also went to school with her. Is her car also missing?

  28. May Allah bring her home unharmed to her family, and may Allah give her family strength during this extremely difficult time. Our prayers go out to you. Please let us know if we can do anything to help.

  29. i went to school with faten and we grew up together. i can’t believe this is happening and i don’t want to believe it. Ya rab ya rab bring her home safely. Ya rab protect her from harms way ya rab.

  30. Thanks everyone! The response has been amazing. I am surprised we even got responses from people who went to school with her. Did you guys go to ISA or Mason with her?

Anyway, Manal and I are working behind the scenes to set things up. We have contacted media and now FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS are running stories on it. It was in the Washington Post today.

NEWS9 here in DC ran it as their leading piece on the 11pm news last night and then ran the story occasionally from 5-7am.

Do a google search of Faten and you’ll already find 20 different entries, two days ago there was nothing. The detective handling the case says he has talked to the FBI and they are probably getting involved.

Marah said that the Embassy had contacted them, either way having the Feds involved is a great thing.

Yes, her car is gone as well. There has been no activity on her cell phone since she went missing, nor any money taken from any accounts.

The numbers provided will get everyone to Marah if they want to call and talk to her and her mother Hyatt it would be greatly appreciated. They are all tired and more than a bit stressed.

    Jazak’Allah Khairan.

  31. i went to ISA with Faten, i have known her since the first grade till now… just last week she texted me :( we used to be on the bus together too till we each graduated…. 19 years of friendship… INSHALLAH YA RAB SHE IS SAFE YA RAB… PLEASE GIVE MANAL MY REGARDS, I TALKED TO MARAH NOT TO LONG AGO… I WANT TO HELP, GET INVOLVED DO ANYTHING TO GET HER SAFE AND SOUND. PLEASE TELL ME/US HOW WE CAN HELP… POST FLYERS, I CAN MAKE EM AND PASS THEM AND POST THEM… PLEASE TELL US.. FATEN IS MY GIRL I WANT TO HELP IN ANYWAY!!!
JAK AND MAY ALLAH BRING HER HOME SAFELY TO HER MOM AND SISTERS…AMEEN

  32. Insha-Allah may she be found safe & sound! Abu Sinan, you & your family are in our prayers.

  33. Samar,

You know, Marah mentioned that she planned on visiting a Samar in the next weekend or two. Is this the same Samar? It must be.

I suggest calling Marah at 202-230-7297 or 540-428-2393. At the last number you can also get her mother Hyatt whom I am SURE can use some kind words and wishes from people who know Faten. It would be comforting to her.

Right now we have our hands full with the media, but that should slow down in the next day or two. Manal the kids and I have a cold, but we are continuing anyway.

We will all be at Marah’s and her mothers house tonight for the weekend.

    Thanks again.

  34. Salaam Abu Sinan,
I will keep you and your family in my du’as. Insha’Allah she’ll be found safe and whole. May Allah make in easy on you and your family.

  35. yes thats me :( i called her as soon as i saw this. one of my friends called me to tell me of this awful news.. Marah mentioned that to me.. Ya Rab inshallah she comes home safe and sound. again, i can prepare flyers and pass them out and keep her in my dua’as that is the least i can do! thank you for keeping us posted.

  36. Samar,

If you e-mail me at abusinan@maktoob.com with your e-mail I can send you flyers that we have already made up.

    Thanks!

  37. I knew Faten years ago at ISA. You probably already know this but, there was a guy who had an accident in MD ( i believe) and was missing for 10 days before his car was finally found. It had fallen into an embankment. He had survived for 10 days in his crushed car. Maybe getting a helicopter out there tracing the route she would have taken would be an option. We are all praying for Faten!

  38. Hi, I went to ISA with Faten as well and im very upset to hear about this. (Hi ya samar)
My dad owned a gas station in Manassas on Sudley road for a few years and we know a few of the other owners around there if not everybody on Sudley, most of the owners are Arab, Pakistani and muslim, so if you could send me the flier i was going to give it some of the employees at the gas station (along with car info) so that we can help in any way possible.

  40. I am sure glad Tariq posted this on the site. Thanks Tariq. I didnt know so many former ISA (Islamic Saudi Academy) students read the site.

    Safa,

    JAK!

  41. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I sent the email out to as many friends as I could. I live in the DC area and I feel we need to push for more media coverage. Is the family opposed to the community emailing and calling the local news stations and demanding more coverage? I think they might be more interested in the story during Ramadan than any other time. Inshallah she will come home safe.

  49. I worked with Faten at the Comfort Inn years ago. She and I were really great friends and I’m sad to hear this has happened. My prayers are with the family.

    Much love from California.

  50. I am so sorry this is happening to your family.

I’m reading a book right now called “The Name and the Named” by Shaykh Tosun Bayrak al-Jerrahi al-Halveti, in which he discusses all the 99 names, their meanings, how we can develop them in ourselves, and how we can use them to call upon God. This is what he says at the end of the section on “Al-Muid” (The Restorer, also The Returner):

“If a person in a household disappears, or a valuable possession is lost, if one recites this Name 77 times upon the four walls of the house in the quiet of the night after everyone has gone to sleep, either the news of the person who disappeared or the person himself (herself) may return to that household.”

I just read that yesterday and I hope it is of use to you if you’d like to try it.

  58. A7amdillah! I heard faten was found! InshaAllah it is true.
    A7amdillah!

  59. I think that since she has been found the picture should be removed. If she is a muslim women it is depicting her with no hijab and makeup and lipstick which totally prohibited in the religion of islam, especially if the need to identify her is finished. For future advice A picture with her wearing hijab would be much more appropriate. Jazaakummulaah Khayraan.
