Nationalism?

I’ve gotten some comments about ‘nationalism’the past few weeks whenever I have written about or advertised a community event such as working in a homeless shelter or a food bank. This may be confusing to some because most Muslims define nationalism (or tribalism or racism) as standing with one’s people even if they are obviously wrong and/or believing one’s people to be superior to all others.

However, over the past decade or so, nationalismhas been defined by some Muslim groups to include participation in soup kitchens, community cleanups and other such things. So because a lot of the people in need of these services happen to be black, to the extent a Blackamerican Muslim involves him/herself in these things, then he/she runs the risk of being called a “black nationalist” by those in these movements. This is why many Blackamerican Muslims are hesitant to participate in these type of endeavors. They believe it to be better to isolate and distance themselves from the problems in front of their mosque as if they don’t live in the community preferring to sit haughtily back and look down upon the rest of the people.

This type of thinking produces an attitude in which one simply complains instead of contributing and renders the Muslims irrelevant in their own communities. Nationalism/Tribalism/Racism are bad things, but we must reject this new definition of it. There is nothing wrong with being concerned about the affairs of one’s community.

51 Responses to “Nationalism?”

  1. As Salaamu Alaikum Brother Tariq:

I am a white American, and work in the social services field. I have seen MANY white people at the soup kitchen or homeless shelter. Being down-and-out is sometimes not a matter of color.

I’m not sure how to comment about the issue of nationalism, but I do know that in Michigan, where there is a big Muslim population, that the Muslim community is very involved with soup kitchens, etc. And these are mostly Arab people. Not only is it a Muslim principle, but also the right thing to do to help your American neighbor in need.

    Thanks for the post.

  2. What a ridiculous notion, that donating one’s time (and, presumably, money) toward charity is a form of “nationalism.” Next thing you know, smiling (which is also a charity) will be considered “nationalism” as well.

  3. I agree with JDsg. Tariq, if they feel this way so be it, after all doesn’t charity begin at home? You are doing awesome things, changing one heart at a time. What greater way to give dawah than providing a beautiful living example of islam in action. The world is tired of lip service.

  4. I’d like to start off by using the hadeeth of Anas (radiyallaahu’ anhu) who said that Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallum) said;

“Help your brother whether he is an oppressor, or one who is oppressed.” They said, “We will help him if he is oppressed, but how should we help him if he is an oppressor?” He said: “Prevent him from it.” (Reported by al-Bukhaaree, eng.trans.vol.3, pg.373)

In regards to this issue above Shaykh Al-Albani (may Allaah have mercy upon him) was asked what foundations should the Islaamic world be called to towards implementing Islaam, and he gave a detailed description of returning to the Book and to the Sunnah as understood and practiced by the companions. This is what we need to do and not waste our time engaging in such things as homeless shelters and soup kitchens.

Rather we only find the people of innovation, misguidance, and desires who are those who openly warn against the salafees and take the people away from the firmly established scholars that are engaged in such “projects”. This is why you find that the people of hadith flee from these “projects” and they usually have the rotten smell of hizbiyyah and nationalism

The protection of the dawah is with those entrusted with the affairs of the Deen (i.e. the kibaar ulama) and those who bring us their kalaam. Dear Muslims where do we find those known for their their efforts in trying to preserve this blessed dawah calling the Muslims to waste their time by engaging in these kinds of “projects” mentioned above? Where do we find those known for clarity engaging and working in soup kitchens and homeless shelters? Or do we find them calling the people to the truth and teaching the people the dawatul salafiyyah?

Rather this is why we have been told that these people are NOT to be co-operated with because they persist upon being contrary to the Sunnah and that it is obligatory to keep away from them and for us to instead adhere to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah.

Co-operation that adheres to the manhaj (methodology) of the Book and the Sunnah will be upon everything that is good, righteousness and obedience to Allaah whether conferences, classes or lectures which are the things that the Muslim should be engaged in.

And how beautiful is the advice of Shaykh Rabee bin Haadee (may Allaah preserve him) when he said:

“Verily we the people of the Islaamic ummah have been given distinction over the other nations due to the fact that we enjoin good and forbid evil. Allaah, the Most High said: ‘You are the best of nations ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin good and forbid evil.’”
The Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: “Whoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart and that is the lowest level of faith.”

O People, attach yourselves to the scholars and their books and lectures and leave off the foolishness

  5. Aboo Imraan

All I have to say is that it is no wonder you all’s group is dying off

  6. The salafi movement is all but over. The question that still burns in my mind is what will replace them? Another over-the-top movement or something that will actually deal with the pathologies that afflicting those communities that subscribe[d] to the salafi way. Two soliloquies sum it up for me:

1] - When Magneta says to Xavier: “Forget them, Charles. They no longer matter.”

2] - And the classic James Brown quote: “Hey, James! What you gon’ play now?” - “Bobby, I don’ know. But what ever I play, it’s got’s to be FUNKY!”

  7. aboo imraan - jazakallahu khayr for letting us hear from the horse’s mouth just how ridiculous the madhkhali dawah is :)

  8. i forgot to add - if shaykh al-albaanee heard this, i am certain he would be “rolling in his grave” at this insanity you attempt to attribute to his name (rahimahullah)

  9. In regards to this issue above Shaykh Al-Albani (may Allaah have mercy upon him) was asked what foundations should the Islaamic world be called to towards implementing Islaam, and he gave a detailed description of returning to the Book and to the Sunnah as understood and practiced by the companions. I guess studying the fiqh ruling of eating Mermaids is better than feeding poor people in a homeless shelter.

  10. Bint Will,

    Your link (homepage) rock!!!!
Here is another one, which I have tried to post on my blog, but I had no time to comment:

    http://www.zeleza.com/blogging/u-s-affairs/end-american-thanksgivings-cause-universal-rejoicing

  11. rocks

  12. @ MR

Man, that link is funny but sad at the same time and shows just how out of touch these guys really are

  13. Thanks Gess! That’s because I rock! ;-) However I am not the owner of that page. Thanks for the link.

Are we serious about this mermaid stuff? Who’s been watching the Little Mermaid and wants to eat Ariel? SHEEESH…

  14. For a Muslim to be labeled as a nationalist for helping poor people is ignorant. I pray that Allah heals our hearts and guide us to that which is upright and good.

  15. [...] Meanwhile, there seems to be “no benefit” in helping in the community as it has been declared to be “nationalism” [...]

  16. Aboo Imraan

Before you quote this and that scholar and hit us with this pusedo-knowledge, why don’t you first and formost depend on the Qur’an and the saying of the Prophets (SAS). I will make it easy for you, go to a Qur’an search engine first and then to a Hadith search engine input the word POOR and hit search and see what have been stated of our responsibility to them.

Brother there is actually a whole pillar of Islam predicated to benefiting the poor.

Such stupidity, you connected the feeding of the poor to innovation. Is everything a Aqeedi conspiracy?

Please leave knowledge to those with the capacity to hold it.

  17. If the same people weren’t de facto Arab Nationalists half the time, it would be easier to take seriously.

  18. 8. And They feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,-
    9. (Saying),”We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.
    10. “We only fear a Day of distressful wrath from the side of Our Lord.”
    11. But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a light of beauty and (blissful) joy.

    [Noble Qur`an: Surat Al-Insaan 8-11]

The most beloved of people to Allah is the most beneficial amongst them and the best of deeds to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic is to make a Muslim happy or to relieve him from some stress or disaster or to settle his debt or remove hunger from him. For me to walk with my brother Muslim who is in need is more beloved to me than doing ‘itikaaf in the masjid for a month. And whoever refrains from anger Allah will cover his sins and whoever suppresses anger even though if he wishes he could satisfy it, Allah fills his heart with satisfaction on Yaum al-Qiyaamah. Whosoever walks with his brother Muslim in his time of need until he has fixed his need for him, Allah will make his feet firm on the day when the feet will be shaken. Indeed bad character will ruin the deed just as vinegar ruins honey.”

Collected by At-Tabaraani in Al-Kabeer and by Ibn Abi Dunya in Qadaa Al-Haqwaa’ij from Ibn ‘Umar radiallahu anhumaa

Al-Albaani considers this hadeeth seeheeh in his Al-Jamius –Sagheer wa Ziyaadah Vol 1 pg. 97

Arabic if Aboo Imraan would like to check it.

  19. There is nothing wrong with feeding people and helping people…..but these conferences based on nationalism like MANA….who had slogans like “The black american muslim…being specific to one race…then this is nationalism.cloaked with the bida of soofism, and the nation of kufr showed up !!!! For what??? support…abu imraan mentions the hadeeth and scholars who skillfully interpret it… you mention magneta and james brown a bunch of stinkin kufaar!!!!!..We tell you black nationalists like we tell the palestinians establish islam to hell with your nationalism…The prophet said: The whoever comes with the calls of jahileeyah then let him bite the head of his father’s penis(bukaaree)….ibnabeeomar keep biting the flesh of Shaykh Rabia…may allah punish you for it you intenet shaytaan…..Unlissted2007

  20. If the link ibnabeeomar’s comment is any indication, then he is a devotee of Yasir Qadhi who has called the Muslims to unite with the people of falsehood and in his speeches has called the Muslims to participate in the same type of “social activist” foolishness that is on this site and does not call the people to the ulamaa but rather he calls to himself. All of the clear salafees have abandoned Yasir Qadhi and he has no following at all.

    Abu Abdillah,

Does the hadeeth you quoted mention anything about feeding the kufaar? What happened to walaa’ and bara?

Have our ulamaa mentioned anything about participation in these “social programs”? If the ulamaa have not advised us to participate, then why should the laymen proceed them and participate in these things?

    “Good Adviser”,

The Salafee is one that is careful and does not proceed until he has heard what they ulamaa have said on the issue. Where they are silent, we are silent. Where they speak, we speak. And they have clarified for us that the people who participate in this “social activism” are doing so with the aim of taking us off of the correct manhaj of the ulamaa and promote their own deviant manhaj. Participation in these “social activities” are the signs of the people of innovation and misguidance, and the people of tribulations and heresies, and the companions of evil specifically

Indeed, the ulamaa’ have made it clear that such deviants are more harmful and more devastating upon the Ummah than the kuffaar themselves. Furthermore, due to the aid of these ’social activists’ and their destruction of the principles wala and bara and refutation and criticism, innovators have been allowed to spread this kind of thought with little resistance.

These people calling to this “social activism” and “common cause” should be relentlessly opposed, shunned and blasted for their deviance.

Even if they come to you to recite the Qur’an we should shun them. One of the people of deviation and desires asked Ibn Seereen, “Can I recite an aayah to you?”, and he said, “No, not even half an aayah”. Why? Because something of amazement with him might fall into his heart, and love of his recitation, and so he loves him from this angle, and thus he becomes a lover of the people of desires and innovations.

I call you people back to the ulamaa so that you may properly learn your deen and to leave off this foolishness.

  21. Quite frankly I am appalled that a group of Muslims would oppose helping people (no matter what religion) in the name of “knowledge” and following scholars. Is it also from “the manhaj” to have no heart?

  22. Salaam Alaikum Br. Tariq,

If you are getting under the skin of these people then take that as a sign that you are doing something right.

Feed the hungry; heal the sick; shelter the homeless whenever you can. Do it for them and do it for Allah. You cannot go wrong.

    Peace,
    PM

  23. Usually I would spit your argument full of holes, but I will not even consider addressing such an ill-conceived misplacement of facts. It is a wonder to me that you and your ulema are shunning something the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to do. Not only did he used to feed the poor and help the misfortunate, he encouraged others to do it.

In fact, all throughout the Qur’an we see Allah encouraging us to feed the poor, assist in good and righteousness, and just plan–go old–helping folks! In our sharia’, there is no rulings to prohibit a believer to work with other people, from different colors (or even faiths) to bring about a mutual betterment of other peoples’ welfare. For you to call giving to the poor, helping the needy and bridging connections as “social activism” and that it is shunned by our scholars, is a misstatement–at least, and a grave danger at most.

You see grasshopper, what you are actually saying is: to give to the people without our scholars’ blessings [or direction] are from the traits of the people of innovation. The result would be, if you had your way, people would not be giving except going through a certain channel to give and contribute to the betterment of the society. The reason why Allah placed no stipulations on giving to those who need it (which is basically the main objective of “social activism”) is because that slows down the flow needed, in order to reach them in a timely fashion.

Unfortunately, I think your priorities are misplaced. People of the Sunnah give without stipulations or red tape; people of the Sunnah give without seeking reward for their service; and people of Sunnah feels an obligation to share what Allah has generously bestowed upon us.

    Your statement:

“The Salafee is one that is careful and does not proceed until he has heard what they ulamaa have said on the issue. Where they are silent, we are silent. Where they speak, we speak. And they have clarified for us that the people who participate in this “social activism” are doing so with the aim of taking us off of the correct manhaj of the ulamaa and promote their own deviant manhaj. Participation in these “social activities” are the signs of the people of innovation and misguidance, and the people of tribulations and heresies, and the companions of evil specifically”

    1. Damn… I don’t know to say brother. Except that the understanding of the Minhaj is: if the action or ibadah is in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, that is sufficient as evidence. In fact, not only do you find it in the Qur’an–the Prophet, peace be upon him, lived, taught, and advised what you call “social activism”.
    2. You mentioned the Salafee is one when they speak, we speak. I do understand that this applies in some cases, but this is NOT a general rule. Unfortunately, you give the reader the impression that it is, when it’s not. Be careful. And what exactly are you referring to? Are you saying that if we don’t have a ruling on an issue, we must wait for scholars overseas to give us approval on each and every matter of basic common sense and is clear to the correct position in regards to Islam? that by the way, has been approved by Allah and His Messenger and the actions of the Salaf-us-Salih before? I am not clear on that.
    3. I am not clear what you mean by social activism is a trait of the people of innovations and misguidance. This must be a new thing in your circles, or you have misunderstood the translations in your conference calls, etc. I would argue that: those who do not give unless it is of benefit to them (or their cause) are upon misguidance. The people of Sunnah give fesabillah, seeking the reward only from Allah; no strings attached, no gimmicks, and no “you owe me ones”. It is Allah who gives guidance, it’s not your charitable giving’s to the poor.
    4. I would say, that if you have a mission to refute Tariq’s positions, it is not wise to come in the forums to target things he does that are good for people. You would have a better footing to target things that you have clear [unmistakable] evidence against. When you tend to rant and rave about every issue that he gives a personal spiel on, it tends to turn people away from your warning and advice. If you seek good, bring it, but don’t bring generalizations and “thou shalt not’s” without thinking before you take position. May Allah give you Jannah and cause you to be one of His beloved ones.

My bottom line is: I’m sorry, but giving to people, organizations, firms, etc. is not an innovated minhaj. It’s the way of the people of Jannah. May Allah give us Jannah and save us all from misguidance and innovations—ameen.

  25. Sahih ul-Bukhari
    Good Manners and Form (Al-Adab)
    Volume 8, Book 73, Number 38:
    Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Apostle said, “While a man was walking on a road. he became very thirsty. Then he came across a well, got down into it, drank (of its water) and then came out. Meanwhile he saw a dog panting and licking mud because of excessive thirst. The man said to himself “This dog is suffering from the same state of thirst as I did.” So he went down the well (again) and filled his shoe (with water) and held it in his mouth and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for that deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?” He said, “(Yes) There is a reward for serving any animate (living being) .”

  26. On a somewhat related note - does Islam make a distinction between patriotism and nationalism?

  27. As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum,

    Aboo Imraan barakallahu feek.

If you noticed, I began ay previous post (as is the habit of the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and the scholars of Islam with ayaat from the Book of Allah. I ask you: Did Allah mention Muslim or non-Muslim in it as a qualifier as the hungry or the orphan or the captive to get help?

You HAVE to be aware that an ambiguous statement like ‘our ‘ulamaa’ can mean different things to every Muslim on this blog. I have sat in the company of many ’salafee’ scholars who DO in principle agree with Muslims serving all humanity when they can in the capacity they can. In general, our priority and first duty is to believers sure, but not to them exclusively. No doubt you or anyone could take issue with their qualifications but I am not going to drop names as that is another post altogether.

We need to gain enough Islamic knowledge for ourselves not to have to make a call to someone 6000 miles to direct us to do or not do something in our own back yard. We should be able to make a mature, reasonable and informed decision on our own. Our inability to do so is an admission of our ignorance and weakness, yet somehow we can so quickly harshly and definitively condemn other Muslims and make Islamic rulings on their status with Allah?

While there is no doubt Muslims are to be given priority, as the hadeeth and other ayaat indicate, don’t forget that the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) was sent as a “mercy to all the worlds”. Muhammad was sent with a message to all mankind, and stood as a guide and a light. He behaved in that manner at all times. He fought the disbelievers but he also showed them kindness and compassion when that was most suitable. He taught us values that if we followed them and held to the would make us the witnesses and the best nation as described in the Qur’aan. The very fact that we have taken ourselves out of social involvement for ‘religious’ reasons when our Prophet came to reform society for the better, especially to have concern for humanity, is an indication of how far from his sunnah we have gone.

We can condemn Muslims so easily for their flawed efforts, but what solutions do we offer them or practical guidance as to how to live and survive in the situation they are in? We condemn and criticise and drive people away time and time again instead of INVITING them to something better! We need to be able to SHOW them that we are on the HAQQ by manifesting that in a balanced and complete package.

We claim to be on the same religion and path and correct manhaj as those who advocate murder and make unjust rulings in the name of Islam. We have our sisters being abused by our brothers. We have addicts and con men who claim they believe in Allah and love his Prophet. We have dead-beat dads and no-account husbands who pray in our masaajid. We have addiction, and many other social ills, psychological and emotional issues that need to be addressed. I could go on and on. The point being that it is a shame for us to claim truth and we often don’t even have decent place to bring a person interested in the deen or anything to show anyone that would make them see Islam as a real alternative, If we are unable to show common courtesy or human concern and this was an outstanding characteristic of our Prophet (’alaihi salaat wa salaam) how can we claim to be upholding the sunnah?

We are VERY good at being indignant and staunch, but what kind of vision do we have for society and what practical means or skills do we have to achieve it. Is the mess of the Muslim world a model for us?

We have no sense of context or history, so we place ourselves in the shoes of an Imam Malik (rahimahullah) or other great imaams who were dealing with a certain type of people in a certain type of circumstance ina certain time and place, and presume that they would do today what they did then! Who the heck are we in comparison to them in the first place? We refuse to see how we actually use the SAME LINE OF THINKING that has led others to paths we condemn as narrow and misguided. We have distorted the message and focus on whatever suits us and due to our problems with individuals and hang ups about groups fail to do anything ourselves to positively affect or help or change the lives of people that could bring the closer to acceptance of Allah’s deen or the ‘correct’ path as Muslims.

Providing services to non-Muslims and treating them with kindness and humanity is a part of the sunnah. See the treatment of the Jewish boy who was dying, the ignorant man who manhandled the Prophet but to whom he gave generously, and so many other examples of unconditional humanity that led to what we should want for all mankind. Namely, guidance to Allah and a chance to enter Al-Jannah and gain salvation from the Fire.

Where is our patience? Where is our foresight? Is Islam just preaching, or condemnation? Did the Prophet only warn, only threaten? When did he do so? Did he always stay away or did he also mix with the people (even at the risk of personal injury) and try his utmost to call them until it got to the point where he had to fight for survival? Where is our fiqh?

I did not attend MANA and certainly have misgivings about the participation of some there who clearly misrepresent Islam. However, the truth is that Black American Muslims have issues that are not being addressed fully or sufficiently by salafis or any one particular group. We basically need to offer a real, tangible alternative as opposed to mere condemnation and criticism. It would go a lot farther toward convincing others, Muslim or not, that we are on the right way.

I pray I have not insulted anyone as it was not my intention. I used WE because I am not above or exempt any of the shortcomings alluded to above. Let us be humble and admit our shortcomings and then get off our high horses and ACT as we ought according to this religion we claim to love and follow, ameen.

  28. Abu Abdillah:

I could not have said it better. May Allah fill your grave with that which pleases you, ameen.

  29. I am tempted to collect, or maybe someone can open a post on a blog, all of these psychopathic ramblings that people make in the name of the “Ulama” and then present them to those respected “Ulama” to see to what extent these people are actually basing their statements and deeds off those of the “Ulama”.

Then they will be exposed for the liars they are, peddling “Salafiyyah” to the people as an excuse to remain ignorant unemployed unproductive sycophantic imps … or as some brothers put in shorter terms “…Just another nigga name Muhammad…”

Only an Idiot who has never once completed a single reading of the Quran (in english at that) would doubt the permissibility of giving charity to all those in need, Muslim or non-Muslim.
Such people are best described by Allah’s statement:
    {الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبُخْلِ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ }الحديد24
“Those that are stingy, and order others to be miserily as well…”

Brother Aboo Imraan, you sir are not a scholar, so kindly shut up.
And brother Aboo Imraan, you sir if so pious that you can not listen to one ayah, simply put you can “haul ass”.
No one is interested in your psychopathic rants that embaress yourself and Muslims as a whole.

If you knew the first thing of the “Salafee Minhaaj” you would know that staying quiet is the first step in learning, and deferring to actual scholars when presented with problematic issues is the second.

You have certainly not done the first, and I doubt you will ever do the second, or have the scholastic aptitude to do so.

  30. Our Salafee brothers are well-meaning but they put the celebrity of a limited ulama living under the House of Saud, above the OBVIOUS implications of an ayaat from the Qur’an or the words of the “MERCY TO ALL THE WORLDS” (SAS)

    Question:

How can you actually determine the “AQEEDAH” of a person who is merely feeding the poor, no more no less? Do you have certainty about his condition? Until you have certainty about the AQEEDAH and NIYYAH of the person, you should really stay silent.

Because your guessing and in the process slandering everyone without knowledge about them.

  31. Good Adviser, Keith Olbermuslim, Abu Abdillah:

Can either of you give me a statement of the important scholars in support of these “social activities”?

I find no signs of Salafiyyah in your statements, no mention of the scholars or Imaams of our time, no mention of the Salafus-Saalih.

One of you impuned our ulamaa by stating something about calling people “6000 miles away”. This kind of statement is designed to get the salafees to disconnect from our ulamaa. To the contrary, the people of the Sunnah are known to connect themselves to the ulamaa and hold to their advice and their direction. Your statement is misleading to those less knowledgeable and causes people to think that what the likes of Tariq Nelson is calling to is noble and beneficial.

Only the people of innovation and misguidance are known to do these “activities” and we do NOT find our ulamaa calling us to do these kinds of activities. Rather we find them warning us from mixing with these people and this is why you will not find the salafee participating in these things. Those who sit with the people of deviation and desires are following a path from the many paths of misguidance and innovation. The Imaam of Ahlus-Sunnah, Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal –rahimahullaah- said in Usoolus-Sunnah: “The Fundamental principles of the Sunnah with us [i.e. the A’immah of the Salaf] are: …The abandonment of sitting with the people of desires and innovation”

Ibn Qudaamah al-Maqdisee – rahimahullaah- said: “The Salaf used to forbid sitting with the People of Innovation, looking into their books and listening to their words.” [Ash-Sharee’ah 1/263]

al-Hasan al-Basree – rahimahullaah- said: “Do not sit with the people of innovation and desires (Ahlul-Bid’ah wal-Ahwaa’), nor argue with them, nor listen to them.” [Usool al-I’tiqaad of al-Laalikaa’ee #240, Sunan ad-Daarimee 1/121]

Imaam al-Baghawee –rahimahullaah- said: “And the Companions, the Taabi’een, their successors and the scholars of the Sunnah passed away while they were upon this, united and unanimously agreed upon having enmity towards the People of Innovation and fleeing from them.” [Sharhus-Sunnah of al-Baghawee 1/227]

Aboo Ya’laa – rahimahullaah – said: “There is ijmaa’ (consensus) among the companions and the Taabi’een regarding disassociating and cutting-off from the Innovators.” [Hajarul-Mubtadi’, pg. 32]

Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Iyyaad –rahimahullaah- said: “Whoever sits with a person of innovation, then beware of him, and whoever sits with a person of innovation has not been given wisdom. I love that there was a fort of iron between me and a person of innovation. That I eat with a Jew and a Christian is more beloved to me than I eat with a person of innovation.” [Usool al-I’tiqaad #39]

Aboo Qilaabah –rahimahullaah –said: “Do not sit with them, do not mix with them for I fear that they will immerse you in their misguidance and confuse you in much of what you know.” [Usool al-I’tiqaad #244]

Aboo Daawood as-Sijistaanee –rahimahullaah -said: “I said to Aboo ‘Abdillaah, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, ‘If I see a man from Ahlus-Sunnah sitting with a man from the people of innovation, should I abandon speaking to him?’ He said, ‘No. You should first inform him that the one whom you saw him with is a person of innovation. Either he will cease speaking to the innovator, so continue speaking to him, or if not, then regard him to be like him.” [Tabaqaatul-Hanaabilah of Ibn Abee Ya’laa 1/60]

So when we read the statements of the Imams of the past and compare them with what you and the likes of Tariq Nelson say then I ask you if they look the same?

We call you all to return to the ulamaa as this is better and more virtuous than continuing upon misguidance.

In the absence of ulamaa in the West, we must call the ulamaa and do the best that we can. It is so sad that we have the technology available yet the vast vast majority of the masjids in the US are not taking advantage of it to call and connect to the ulamaa when they have these misconceptions and do not ask about them. For the ulamaa allow the principles of the salaf to guide them in what they say, and they could easily go over the principles of dealing with the errors of someone with false foundations. What is preventing them from asking the kibaar about these issues, but instead turning to these ignorant people in the West who tell them to go mix with the people of bidah in these endeavors?

Finally, even if the brothers have some “social problems” then if they are salafee then they are still better than the people of bidah. It is better to be upon the sunnah and starving and hungry than to be upon bidah with a full stomach. So your trying to disparage the salafees with these “social problems” is of no consequence to us

  32. As-salaamu-alaikum,
Why are you all in here trying to exercise the grey matter?
Much better to jar them and have someone else to all your thinking for you.

  33. Aboo Imran,

The question is not whether WE can give YOU a statement of the “Ulama” supporting these events.

Had you the slightest knowledge of this deen, you would know that the base ruling in areas of social activities is that it is PERMISSIBLE until proven otherwise.

This principle, had you read or even tried to find out, was agreed upon by all scholars of Islam. You can (you you are able to which I doubt) go back to the works of al-Allamah AbdulRahman ibn Sa’di to find out.

    Thats firstly.

Secondly, spare us the cut and paste jobs. had you any sense of what you are saying, you would have known that those Athat are specific to innovators. Not giving Dawah to the Kuffar.

If you really believe what you are saying is true, paste your real name, phone number, and address into the comments.
We will contact the “Ulama” that you speak for on their behalf and then post their opinion of you and your statements on the internet for all to see.
This is if you are seriously in support of the “Ulama”

  34. My message to Aboo Imraan- SHUT UP!

  35. Brother Keith,

I see me and you share the same backgrounds. I wonder at people who challenge us to produce proof on things that is cut-and-dry. Jazzak Allah Khayran to you for showing us, Abu Imraan, Just how good of a decision we made in making tawbah to Allah and abandoning the neo-salafi movement.

We have a lot more issues to tackle than sitting around having a p**sing contest. You know–now that I think of it, the same tricks I see being played within those circles, is the same tricks we used to play in the hood. Here are just a few…

    Ghetto Tricks to Keep Control:

    1. If you’re not with us you are agianst us
    2. You can’t buy from anyone except us
    3. You must pass all matters through us
    4. Nobody is better than us
    5. Let’s make our way “what’s up” and make our opponents way “what out”
    6. Let’s sabotoge other efforts, until we become superior

It’s ironic that these hood games happen to spill over into the neo-salafi movement. The ghetto tricks that worked in the hood, does not mean a hill of beans when it comes to walking the path back to Allah. Unfortunatelty, the same brothers holding on to this neo-salafi mindset, will have a difficult time maintaining the life of the heart.

  36. abdulhaqq91@yahoo.com

  37. So Skaykh Ubaid (hafidhullaah) replied to a similar question to this issue by saying “Firstly, all of the jamaa’aat of Hizbiyyah (party spirit), if they allow a salafi to join with them, or to work with them, then this is something temporary and not permanent.

And secondly, they have to do this in order to attract people, the people in general, and the Salafis who are aware of their state in particular, so this is a principle with them which we know.

And thirdly, if they get a hold of this person and manage to get an upper hand, they will pressure him until he drops some of the affairs of the manhaj. They seek to utilise either his personal weakness, or monetary need.

And the fourth matter is that they will bring people who cover over, or put another way, efface whatever the scholars and the salafis put forward. They bring people, so that is a person gives a salafi lecture, in ‘aqeedah and manhaj, they bring people to confuse and deceive the common folk.

This is with regards to what you said about some of the Shaykhs participating along with them. Then there is another aspect: Those who participate along with Ihyaa ut-Turaat, this is not a recommendation (tazkiyyah) for them. They have their aims; or that the affairs have not become as clear to them as they have to others. And there is a principle here, that will perhaps be known to the intelligent ones and the brothers in the faculties: A principle of the sciences of hadeeth; the principle that if there is a conflicting jarh (disparagement) and ta’deel (commendation), then which is to be given precedence? If the general ta’deel is found conflicting with detailed jarh, then which is given precedence? The detailed jarh.

So for example, if you asked about a person: What do you think about so and so? And you received the reply: This is a person whom we consider to be good, he is present at the Friday and congregational prayers; and they mention some good qualities found in him. But another man comes and you ask him the same question and he says: What do you want from him? So you say: He wants to marry my sister or my daughter. So he says to you: Beware, he has evil manners. His manners and marital life are not good. So will you accept the ta’deel of the first, or the jarh of the second? The jarh of the second because he has given you additional knowledge. He has extra knowledge. Do you understand, may Allaah bless you? So this is a general/universal principle. This is a general/universal principle. Do you understand may Allaah bless you? Then, we have a balance. We have two scales to judge action and saying upon.”

Top of page 4 the shaykh is asked “Shaykh, you said the co-operation with Ihyaaut-Turaat is not allowed?”

The Shaykh responded by saying “All of the jamaa’aat that have newly come about for da’wah, and whatever is an offshoot of them, then what I hold as my Religion before Allaah is that it is not allowed to co-operate with them in their da’wah activities. So we do not co-operate with them in the building of schools, nor in the building of mosques, nor in publishing books, since they will, according to our experience and knowledge, utilise this in helping to spread innovation.”

Shaykh was further asked on page 4 in the second last paragraph “Shaykh if we are invited to give lesson or a lecture with some people and they are Tableeghees, or Ikhwaanees, or with Ihyaa ut-Turaat, and they will not force us to say anything. The da’wah will be from us and not from them. The lecture is from us and not from them. The lecture is from us and not from them, but it is in their mosque, or a meeting arranged by them. So are even the likes of these things allowed, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh responded by saying “As for me, then I do not hold the permissibility of that, according to our experience – that they are not sincere in this. Rather this is a stratagem, a sport, and a way to win over affection. Have you understood this? May Allaah bless you. This is a game and a way to win over affection. Yes, they bring a salafi to give a talk, but they spread matters that are innovation, and they bring someone to the same place at which you spoke in today, tomorrow they bring someone who contradicts that. Have you understood? So the reality is that I do not allow this, nor do I hold that it will rectify and put them aright. And we advise our brothers who to them, and we give them information about them, so many of them, and all praise if for Allaah, understand the affair.” (End of the extracts taken from the article.”)

Allaahu Akbar! The above mentioned advice should be typed in gold, especially when it is so pertinent to this time of ours when forces of evil are working day and night under the gown of salafiyyah, trying to cause dissention, confusion and menace! Those who have become confused at the hands of these shayaateen from the hizbiyoon should read and reflect upon the naseehah of this great ‘aalim.

And hidaayah is from Allaah and it is only for those who are sound hearted and those who sincerely seek the face of their Lord.

  38. as-salamu `alaykum,

For those who believe that we should not feed indigent non-Muslims, I have a question for you:

What do you say about the citation of Imam Abu Yusuf (Ya`qub bin Ibrahim; Renowned student of Imam Abu Hanifa and teacher of Imam Ahmad) in his Kitab al-Khiraj that `Umar (radi Allahu `anhu) fed an indigent Jew from the very Treasury of the Muslims (Bayt al-Mal) stating, “By Allah! It is not just that we should take Jizyah from him in his youth (lit. “consume his youth” ;) and be stingy with him when he is aged!”

  39. As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

This is why I rarely write on blogs. It degenerates into who can get in the last word or someone’s deen get’s maligned, a hukm gets made and I end up feelign sorry I ever read it. May Allah guide us and forgive us, ameen.

  40. Hey Aboo Imraan,

So next time you see a hungry Muslim boy, you can be sure “save Darfur”, “Oprah” will come to rescue.

Ten Reasons Why “Save Darfur” is a PR Scam to Justify the Next US Oil and Resource Wars in Africa

The star-studded hue and cry to “Save Darfur” and “stop the genocide” has gained enormous traction in U.S. media along with bipartisan support in Congress and the White House. But the Congo, with ten to twenty times as many African dead over the same period is not called a “genocide” and passes almost unnoticed. Sudan sits atop lakes of oil. It has large supplies of uranium, and other minerals, significant water resources, and a strategic location near still more African oil and resources. The unasked question is whether the nation’s Republican and Democratic foreign policy elite are using claims of genocide, and appeals for “humanitarian intervention” to grease the way for the next oil and resource wars on the African continent.

Top Ten Reasons to Suspect “Save Darfur” is a PR Scam to Justify US Military Intervention in African

by BAR Managing Editor Bruce Dixon

The regular manufacture and the constant maintenance of false realities in the service of American empire is a core function of the public relations profession and the corporate news media. Whether it’s fake news stories about wonder drugs and how toxic chemicals are good for you, bribed commentators and journalists discoursing on the benefits of No Child Left Behind, Hollywood stars advocating military intervention to save African orphans, or slick propaganda campaigns employing viral marketing techniques to reach out to college students, bloggers, churches and ordinary citizens, it pays to take a close look behind the facade.

Among the latest false realities being pushed upon the American people are the simplistic pictures of Black vs. Arab genocide in Darfur, and the proposed solution: a robust US-backed or US-led military intervention in Western Sudan. Increasing scrutiny is being focused upon the “Save Darfur” lobby and the Save Darfur Coalition; upon its founders, its finances, its methods and motivations and its truthfulness. In the spirit of furthering that examination we here present ten reasons to suspect that the “Save Darfur” campaign is a PR scam to justify US intervention in Africa.

    1. It wouldn’t be the first Big Lie our government and media elite told us to justify a war.

Elders among us can recall the Tonkin Gulf Incident, which the US government deliberately provoked to justify initiation of the war in Vietnam. This rationale was quickly succeeded by the need to help the struggling infant “democracy” in South Vietnam, and the still useful “fight ‘em over there so we don’t have to fight ‘em over here” nonsense. More recently the bombings, invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq have been variously explained by people on the public payroll as necessary to “get Bin Laden” as revenge for 9-11, as measures to take “the world’s most dangerous weapons” from the hands of “the world’s most dangerous regimes”, as measures to enable the struggling Iraqi “democracy” stand on its own two feet, and necessary because it’s still better to “fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them here”.

    2. It wouldn’t even be the first time the U.S. government and media elite employed “genocide prevention” as a rationale for military intervention in an oil-rich region.

The 1995 US and NATO military intervention in the former Yugoslavia was supposedly a “peacekeeping” operation to stop a genocide. The lasting result of that campaign is Camp Bondsteel, one of the largest military bases on the planet. The U.S. is practically the only country in the world that maintains military bases outside its own borders. At just under a thousand acres, Camp Bondsteel offers the US military the ability to pre-position large quantities of equipment and supplies within striking distance of Caspian oil fields, pipeline routes and relevant sea lanes. It is also widely believed to be the site of one of the US’s secret prison and torture facilities.

    3. If stopping genocide in Africa really was on the agenda, why the focus on Sudan with 200,000 to 400,000 dead rather than Congo with five million dead?

“The notion that a quarter million Darfuri dead are a genocide and five million dead Congolese are not is vicious and absurd,” according to Congolese activist Nita Evele. “What’s happened and what is still happening in Congo is not a tribal conflict and it’s not a civil war. It is an invasion. It is a genocide with a death toll of five million, twenty times that of Darfur, conducted for the purpose of plundering Congolese mineral and natural resources.”

More than anything else, the selective and cynical application of the term “genocide” to Sudan, rather than to the Congo where ten to twenty times as many Africans have been murdered reveals the depth of hypocrisy around the “Save Darfur” movement. In the Congo, where local gangsters, mercenaries and warlords along with invading armies from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola engage in slaughter, mass rape and regional depopulation on a scale that dwarfs anything happening in Sudan, all the players eagerly compete to guarantee that the extraction of vital coltan for Western computers and cell phones, the export of uranium for Western reactors and nukes, along with diamonds, gold, copper, timber and other Congolese resources continue undisturbed.

Former UN Ambassador Andrew Young and George H.W. Bush both serve on the board of Barrcik Gold, one of the largest and most active mining concerns in war-torn Congo. Evidently, with profits from the brutal extraction of Congolese wealth flowing to the West, there can be no Congolese “genocide” worth noting, much less interfering with. For their purposes, U.S. strategic planners may regard their Congolese model as the ideal means of capturing African wealth at minimal cost without the bother of official U.S. boots on the ground.

    4. It’s all about Sudanese oil.

Sudan, and the Darfur region in particular, sit atop a lake of oil. But Sudanese oil fields are not being developed and drilled by Exxon or Chevron or British Petroleum. Chinese banks, oil and construction firms are making the loans, drilling the wells, laying the pipelines to take Sudanese oil where they intend it to go, calling far too many shots for a twenty-first century in which the U.S. aspires to control the planet’s energy supplies. A U.S. and NATO military intervention will solve that problem for U.S. planners.

    5. It’s all about Sudanese uranium, gum arabic and other natural resources.

Uranium is vital to the nuclear weapons industry and an essential fuel for nuclear reactors. Sudan possesses high quality deposits of uranium. Gum arabic is an essential ingredient in pharmaceuticals, candies and beverages like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, and Sudanese exports of this commodity are 80% of the world’s supply. When comprehensive U.S. sanctions against the Sudanese regime were being considered in 1997, industry lobbyists stepped up and secured an exemption in the sanctions bill to guarantee their supplies of this valuable Sudanese commodity. But an in-country U.S. and NATO military presence is a more secure guarantee that the extraction of Sudanese resources, like those of the Congo, flow westward to the U.S. and the European Union.

    6. It’s all about Sudan’s strategic location

Sudan sits opposite Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, where a large fraction of the world’s easily extracted oil will be for a few more years. Darfur borders on Libya and Chad, with their own vast oil resources, is within striking distance of West and Central Africa, and is a likely pipeline route. The Nile River flows through Sudan before reaching Egypt, and Southern Sudan has water resources of regional significance too. With the creation of AFRICOM, the new Pentagon command for the African continent, the U.S. has made open and explicit its intention to plant a strategic footprint on the African continent. From permanent Sudanese bases, the U.S. military could influence the politics and ecocomies of Africa for a generation to come.

    7. The backers and founders of the “Save Darfur” movement are the well-connected and well-funded U.S. foreign policy elite.
According to a copyrighted Washington Post story this summer

“The “Save Darfur (Coalition) was created in 2005 by two groups concerned about genocide in the African country - the American Jewish World Service and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum…

“The coalition has a staff of 30 with expertise in policy and public relations. Its budget was about $15 million in the most recent fiscal year…

“Save Darfur will not say exactly how much it has spent on its ads, which this week have attempted to shame China, host of the 2008 Olympics, into easing its support for Sudan. But a coalition spokeswoman said the amount is in the millions of dollars.”

Though the “Save Darfur” PR campaign employs viral marketing techniques, reaching out to college students, even to black bloggers, it is not a grassroots affair, as were the movement against apartheid and in support of African liberation movements in South Africa, Namibia, Angola and Mozambique a generation ago. Top heavy with evangelical Christians who preach the coming war for the end of the world, and with elements known for their uncritical support of Israeli rejectionism in the Middle East, the Save Darfur movement is clearly an establishment affair, a propaganda campaign that spends millions of dollars each month to manfacture consent for US military intervention in Africa under the cloak of stopping or preventing genocide.

    8. None of the funds raised by the “Save Darfur Coalition”, the flagship of the “Save Darfur Movement” go to help needy Africans on the ground in Darfur, according to stories in both the Washington Post and the New York Times.

“None of the money collected by Save Darfur goes to help the victims and their families. Instead, the coalition pours its proceeds into advocacy efforts that are primarily designed to persuade governments to act.”

    9. “Save Darfur” partisans in the U.S. are not interested in political negotiations to end the conflict in Darfur
President Bush has openly and repeatedly attempted to throw monkey wrenches at peace negotiations to end the war in Darfur. Even pro-intervention scholars and humanitarian organizations active on the ground have criticized the U.S. for endangering humanitarian relief workers, and for effectively urging rebel parties in Darfur to refuse peace talks and hold out for U.S. and NATO intervention on their behalf.

The slick, well financed and nearly seamless PR campaign simplistically depicts the conflict as strictly a racial affair, in which Arabs, generally despised in the US media anyway, are exterminating the black population of Sudan. In the make-believe world it creates, there is no room for negotiation. But in fact, many of Sudan’s ‘Arabs”, even the Janjiweed, are also black. In any case, they were armed and unleashed by a government which has the power to disarm them if it chooses, and can also negotiate in good faith if it chooses. Negotiations are never a gurantee of anything, but refusal to particpate in negotiations, as the U.S. appears to be urging the rebels in Darfur to do, and as the “Save Darfur” PR campaign justifies, avoids any path to a political settlement among Sudanese, leaving open only the road of U.S and NATO military intervention.

    10. Blackwater and other U.S. mercenary contractors, the unofficial armed wings of the Republican party and the Pentagon are eagerly pitching their services as part of the solution to the Darfur crisis.

“Chris Taylor, head of strategy for Blackwater, says his company has a database of thousands of former police and military officers for security assignments. He says Blackwater personnel could set up perimeters and guard Darfurian villages and refugee camp in support of the U.N. Blackwater officials say it would not take many men to fend off the Janjaweed, a militia that is supported by the Sudanese government and attacks villages on camelback.”

Apparently Blackwater doesn’t need to come to the Congo, where hunger and malnutrition, depopulation, mass rape and the disappearance of schools, hospitals and civil society into vast law free zones ruled by an ever-changing cast of African proxies (like the son of the late and unlamented Idi Amin), all under a veil of complicit media silence already constitute the perfect business-friendly environment for siphoning off the vast wealth of that country at minimal cost.

Look for the adoption of the Congolese model across the wide areas of Africa that U.S. strategic planners call “ungoverned spaces”. Just don’t expect to see details on the evening news, or hear about them from Oprah, George Clooney or Angelina Jolie.

  41. Abu Abdillah:

Just to give you a head’s-up. Getting things done–means getting your hands dirty. The reason why Muslims are on our backs is because: no one wants to get their hands dirty; we lost the understanding of sacrificing our resources (i.e. time, money, reputation). Learn yourself in the ettiquetes of differing and calling to Allah.

  42. I’m so depressed now.

After reading Aboo Irmaan I guess i can’t do anything at all because I would be sitting with the people pf innovation. I can’t sit with my parents or family meetings as we try to figure out what to do with our elders.

I can’t meet with RN’s and other medical interns on the best way to start a free clinic unless they are Salafi (as if I’m going to find a lot of them in Albuquerque, NM).

I can’t even open a food bank, free clinic or womans shelter unless its only for the Salafi even if my own neighborhood is in shambles.

All I can do is walk on by and just be happy with at least knowing I’m Muslim.

    *sighs*

Jumaah will be so depressing today. I’m sure people of innovation will be praying all around me.

  43. Allah is not the auther of confusion.

    abdulhaqq91@yahoo.com

  44. hijabisoverated:

There is no need for depression because you do not have to sit with the people of innovation. You can contact the clear salafis that are connected to the ulamaa and they will show you the true nature of Islam. Once you understand it, you will laugh at the “activists” who do nothing but act on ignorance, bidah and deviance.

The best thing for you to do is to find the people who connect with the ulamaa and learn your deen from them. This can be done by looking at this website:
    http://www.albaseerah.org/

You can even submit your question to the ulamaa as well so there is no excuse for not being connected to the ulamaa as we are commanded to do. You can have the administration in your masjid to have the lectures in your masjid. It is like having the ulamaa teaching in your very own masjid! And it is free! This is an example of using modern technology to benefit us by bringing the daroos of our beloved ulamaa to our masjids here in the West.

Even if your masjid administration ignorantly refuses to connect to these tele-links, then you can connect in your home.

Our ulamaa love us and they want us to benefit from them. They have dedicated their lives to this and we should take advantage of these amazing opportunities to have the ulamaa teaching in our masjids instead of some ignorant imam

  45. How do you know the Imam is ignorant? Is he ignorant for not chosing to listen to your tele-links?

I should write a article called: politricks from the hood

  46. ‘Good Adviser’ and others:

Please read ALL of what I say below

There are no scholars in the West that is how I know that they are ignorant. If they are not connecting their masjid to the telelinks, then I know that this man is ignorant. And if he is not from amongst the known salafees that connect to the ulamaa then I know that he is ignorant. Otherwise he would have the people in his masjid listening to the telelinks to our ulamaa and learning some proper knowledge instead of upon ignorance. These imams only call to themselves instead of calling to the ulamaa as they should.

Every masjid in the West should be taking advantage of the free telelinks provided and making sure the people get proper knowledge instead of knowledge from the deviants. This is the reason the clear salafees stay clear of the masjids of deviance and stay connected to the salafee masjids.

A lot of you spend alot of time learning all things Israeli/Palestinian and can tell us all kinds of useless facts about that conflict and write letters to editors, and sign useless petitions.

The Islam that is practiced nowadays is a mixture of socialism, communism, radical revolutionary, democratic fundamentalism, secular humanism and Liberation Theology This is NOT Islam. This is why we flee from the “projects” of these people such as the food banks, clothing giveaways and film festivals and busy ourselves with the lectures of the ulamaa. The people of ignorance busy themselves in these things rather than learning their deen.

If Che Guevara is your hero, or if you think Rage Against the Machine and various other culturally and politically aware rock, hip-hop or rap groups sing “Islamic” music then be not mistaken. This is not the path. This is not Islam. This is not the way our forefathers treaded.

My Advice to you all is to learn the criteria for being a scholar of Islam, so that you can know who the Major Scholars REALLY are. And once you do, find the nearest salafee masjid in your area and connect yourself with those brothers. Rely on the ulamaa of this deen and learn from them and their students and not these ignorant imams in these masjids that are calling us to “community projects”

Salvation lies with connecting with the ulamaa. You will find that the salafee is the one always quoting from the ulamaa and talking about their latest lessons and their books. This is the way of the Muslim and not the way of the waste of time socialist projects

  47. May Allah grant us the good of your works and save us from your evils. My breifcase is closed on this issue.

    abdulhaqq91@yahoo.com

  48. Shaykh Muhammad Naasirudin Al-Albaanee (rahimahullah) stated:

“Perhaps it is also suitable to mention on this occasion the well-known statement of Imaam Maalik: “The setting above is known, and how it is so is unknown, and asking about it is a form of innovation. So expel this man, for he is an innovator.”
This famous narration took place in an occasion when a man came to Imaam Maalik and asked him about the rising above the throne, as regards to Allaah. Imaam Maalik responded, “The setting above is known, and how it is so is unknown, and asking about it is a form of innovation. So expel this man, for he is an innovator.” He did not become an innovator for merely asking about it; the man wanted to understand something. But Imaam Maalik feared that while questioning, he may make some statements which are against the belief of the salaf. So he told them to remove the man from the sitting. “Remove the man, for he is an innovator.”

Look now how the means have differed. What do you think: if I or any other person of knowledge were asked the same thing by either the generality of Muslims or by specific groups amongst them who have more knowledge, do you think we should give the answer which Imaam Maalik gave? Would we tell the people to get him out of our gathering because he is an innovator? No. Why? Because the times are different.

So the methods which were used in those times were acceptable then, but are not acceptable today because they will harm more than they will benefit. And we can add to this the principle of boycotting, which is known in Islaam. We are often asked, “So-and-so, a friend, doesn’t pray, he smokes, and he does this and that. Should we boycott him?” I say, “No, you should not boycott him because boycotting him is what he would like for you to do. Your boycotting him would not benefit him. In fact, it is the opposite, it would make him happy. And it would allow him to continue in his misguidance.”

Not to mention, on this occasion, a Shaamee saying relative to a man who is corrupt and has abandoned prayer. This man repented and went to pray his first prayer in the masjid only to find the door of the masjid locked. His response to this was, “You’re closed, so I’ll drop the prayer.” That corrupt individual who has abandoned prayer, does he want the practicing Muslim to boycott him? This is just like the example- “You’re closed so I won’t bother to pray.” The [boycotted] man would similarly say, “I do not need his companionship; I do not want to be with him anyway.” This is because the companionship of the righteous with the corrupt prevents the latter from being free to do whatever he wants to do. The corrupt individual does not really want that. Thus, the boycotting of the un-righteous by the righteous is what the un-righteous prefers.

Consequently, the Islaamically legal boycott is intended to fulfill a legal benefit, which is to teach that individual. So if the boycott in no way teaches him a lesson, but in fact, it increases him in misguidance on top of his already misguided state, in such a circumstance, boycotting is not applicable or appropriate.

Consequently, today it is not suitable to imitate the methods used by the early scholars because they did so from a position of strength and the ability to prevent. Today look at the how the situation of Muslims is. They are weak in everything. Not only in the governments, but the individuals as well. The situation is as the Prophet (pbuh) described it when he said: “Islaam began as something strange and it will return again to become something strange, so give glad tidings to the Strangers.” He was asked, “Who are they, O Messenger of Allaah?” He responded, “They are people who believed, a few righteous individuals amongst many people; those who disobey them are many more than those who obey them.”

So if we open the door of boycotting and declaring people innovators, we may as well go and live in the mountains. What is obligatory on us today is to call to the way of our Lord with wise preaching and a good expression and discuss with them with that which is better.”

  50. As Salamu alaikum

1st I like to say Alhamdulillah that Allah ta alal saved me from the so-called “salafi dawah” and allowed me to be Sunnee from Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah, and i am happy to follow the Shafi’i mathab instead of do-it-yourself fiqh, and instead of wasting my life on who just got tossed off the manhaj on salafitalk i am busy with getting ready to meet my Lord and fullfilling the purpose of my creation.

2nd to even have a debate if helping the miskeen is allowed is dumb and below me

3rd, this sect is just a passing fad that will go the way of many other sects that have come into the ranks of the Ummah, Islam, Iman and Ihsan will be here after it dies out.

4th. As Far as innovator, Albani himself has been ruled one see the book Albani and his friends

5th The majority of the Ulmah of today and the last 1,000 years have made it clear who is the innovator it is the one who has a aqidah outside othe 3 accepted Sunnee schools of aqidah that means those who think Allah is human like seating on a chair in the sky are the biggest innovators.

  51. “Every masjid in the West should be taking advantage of the free telelinks provided and making sure the people get proper knowledge instead of knowledge from the deviants. This is the reason the clear salafees stay clear of the masjids of deviance and stay connected to the salafee masjides ”

These are the word of someone who is totally brainwashed, 95% of the Ulamah are not really ulamah only the 5% who are in KSA and some parts of Yemen are the “real” Ulamah. And the statements of the Ulamah of the past is viewed by the rosed colored glasses of the Kabir / Allamah of KSA and not even all of the Ulamah of KSA only the follows of Abdul Wahhab ra.

You see all you Muslim’s are wrong all of your Imam’s are worng all of the famous Ulamah like Imam Nawawi ra, Ibn Hajr, Imam Abu Haneefah, etc etc …all wrong…all those hundreds of thousands of Ulamah wrong , the Four mathabs wrong.

The Internet Super Muslim’s aka The Email Ulamah are the only one’s who really know, forget Imam Malik ra take from Abu Uways ra.
