Slice of American Muslim Culture

Sister Hassanah Tauhidi (a DC local) filmed a documentary called “Bean Pie My Brother? A Slice of American Muslim History.” It is part of Link TV’s contest, “One Nation, Many Voices: Muslims in America, Stories Not Stereotypes.” (Be sure to vote)

In contrast to the other films in the contest, Sr. Hassanah’s is the only one representing the Blackamerican community’s contribution to Muslim culture in this country. Yes the Bean Pie isn’t a significant contribution, but it is an important part of Muslim cultural contribution, and she wanted to be a little creative and not take the victimization or “angry ” Muslim perspective. Also, keep in mind that it is a work in progress. She was only allowed to submit no more than 5-minutes. It’s more of a teaser.

FYI, Sister Hassanah and Imam Johari are currently working on a television series called, “Living Islam in America.”
