Brain Fitness Program

This is very interesting. Could be something to help us to give our children an edge in competition

This program presents a workout to help viewers get their brains in better shape. The Brain Fitness Program is based on neuro-plasticity, the ability of the brain to change and adapt — even rewire itself. In the past two years, a team of scientists has developed computer-based stimulus sets that drive beneficial chemical, physical and functional changes in the brain. Dr. Michael Merzenich of the University of California San Francisco and his colleagues around the world have been leading this effort; he brings the research findings, along with a scientifically based set of brain exercises, to PBS viewers in this innovative and life-altering program.

  1. You’re really starting to scare me!

  2. I always though those brain teasers in math books sort of “worked out’ the brain.

Have you ever noticed after building something where you are required to think and design, you almost always learn a little something about the nature of physics, etc.?

I think people who read alot (especially non-fiction) can get smarter and smarter as they age in relation to their ability to encounter, diagnose, and solve problems, and thus “do better” at life in general.

Its almost ridiculous to think that we can build up our bodies with weights, but not our minds by mental tasks. We can build up our lung capacity with endurance training, our tolerances to various stimuli, so why not our noggins’?

  3. I remember reading somewhere that those who continue to do things like crossword puzzles thorughout their lives have less problems with things like Alzheimer’s.
