Stuff Educated Black People Like

I haven’t found the copy cat sites to “stuff white people like” to very funny, but this one is an exception.

Stuff Educated Black People Like. Here are some of my favorites:

#6 - Conferences - The point of some Black organizations seems to be to have conferences. In other words: The conference IS the organization.

#8 - Business Cards - Gotta have lots of cards to hand out at the conferences. Everyone has a giant collection of them from all the conferences

#11 - Turkey Bacon/Sausage - You are officially “siddity” when you stop eating pork

#13 - Talking about Uneducated Blacks People - The must topic. Perhaps even a panel discussion at a conference

#16 - Moving to Atlanta - If you don’t live in DC, New York, Chicago or another “happening” city, you’re probably talking about moving to Atlanta

  1. #6 and #8 actually stem from a business school mentality. Nice to see the MBA culture seeping into every corner of society.

Anyone who’s worked for a large organisation/corporation knows that every year or so you have your yearly conference, supposedly about motivating everyone, it costs a whole bunch of money, and usually involves the ‘management’ tier where the executive team tries to convince their managers about the latest fad in improving the organisation. Also known as junkets.

Usually these kinds of things happen in organisations which are stagnating, and are the first signs of being in trouble.

See Dilbert (I wonder if he goes on the list of stuff _____ people like, fill in the blank with what you will)

  2. Although I live in the outskirts of Atlanta, I have watched how my city has grown, and it has grown dramatically. Even though I live in the diverse sction I still find it intriguing that me as a Black woman, to come from a city where, there are a lot of African-Americans like myself, who make up , part of the “Black Mecca”. Whether it’s Atlanta or it’s outskirts(in this case, the black ones) It’s just good see that there are Black people that are prosperous and not out there being miserable as seen to often by media.

It ’s funny, I remembered the first time, I’ve visited the North and other southern States Pennsylvania, Maryland Wasngton DCand Virginia. I did this around different times periods. I staying for a couple of weeks, in each ( with the exception of VA, I was only there for a day). I remembered going to Pennsylania and geting homesick. I think it had a lot to with the section of Pennsylvania I was in( State College, Penns State.Maybe if I would have been in Philly , my feelings of homesickness would have been less pronounced and the discrimination I faced in one part of that city). Far as the rest, I didn’t get homesick , maybe because those places reminded me of Atlanta. In general, I like living/visiting place that are like my city or diverse.

as-salaamu ‘alaikum. Tariq, if this list is “stuff educated black people like” and I don’t like anything on it, does that mean I’m not educated or not black or both? ;)

  4. What is a siddity?

  5. I think the site is hilarious and mostly true!

  6. omg, the site is so true..

  7. Number 13 seeps into every aspect of an EBP’s life–it’s part of forming an identity. If that’s what *they* are, then that’s what *we* arent. Coincidentally, EBPs love going on and on about how black people arent the same, we are really diverse, not all blacks are poor, criminals blah blah…

Seriously number 13 is a book in and of itself!

  8. I’m in college. How important is it to do the things on this list? Will the things listed help you become more educated and successful? Because I do practice some of the things on the list..

  9. Timothy, I hope you’re not serious… it’s not a guideline to life… it’s a list of observations… but if you want to turn out to be a proper educated negro, sure, print it out and bible-fy it.

Hilarious! I believe this should have been titled ‘observations’, as opposed to its current title.
