FAITH Urgent Cases for May 20^th to May 26^th 2008

NOTE: All FAITH clients receive budget counseling and caseworkers assist them in developing a new plan to manage their budgets and become self-sufficient.

1. Widow with 3 Orphans. Falls Church, VA area. Widow’s brother was supporting her and the orphans but he now has additional family responsibilities. The widow just began a part-time job, but because she started working has lost her food stamps. They need $200 per month to cover the financial gap. $200/month sponsor needed for 6 months. Great rewards for sponsoring a widow and orphans.

1. Couple with 1 Child Needs Help with Rent. Falls Church, VA area. The husband lost his job and is looking for a new one.. The wife works but they are behind on rent. They will take a loan from FAITH. As they repay the loan, the money will be recycled and go to other needy clients. Your donation will help twice– as a loan for this family now and future sadaqa for other needy clients, insha’Allah. $1,795 rent needed.

1. Grandmother, Single Mother and Daughter in Need. Maryland area. The single mom just got a job and is doing her best to support her aging mother and daughter. They were evicted and are moving to a basement. Please help 3 generations of single women out. $1,000 needed for rent.

1. Single Mom with 3 Teenagers. Falls Church, VA area. She just got a job but requires food assistance. She cannot afford enough food for her 3 teenage kids on top of the other bills. Please help her cope by feeding the hungry. $400 needed for 2 months of food assistance.

1. Frail, Elderly Woman Needs Help with Rent. Springfield, VA area. She only works 4 hrs per week because of chronic back pain. Mercy for the elderly. $900 needed for rent.

1. Single Mom with 2 Kids; Laid Off Work. Sterling, VA area. She has been applying for jobs but hasn’t found any yet. Help prevent homelessness and desperation. $1,250 for rent needed.

1. Husband and Wife Can’t Work; 15 yr old daughter. Falls Church, VA. The husband recently had heart surgery. The wife recently had disc surgery. They cannot work. They have a teenage daughter. This family needs help through a tough time. $1,550 rent help needed.

1. Husband and Wife Hit Hard by the Housing Market Collapse. Great Falls, VA. They have 2 kids; the older one with ADD. Both are unemployed, house going into foreclosure. The gas has been disconnected; electricity about to be disconnected. Help restore the family’s dignity. They need $200 for utilities, car gas, and food.

1. Single Mom with 3 Kids. Fairfax, VA area. One of the kids has heart problems. The mom is getting laid off soon. She needs $476 in one week to pay rent or she’ll be evicted from Section 8 Housing. Prevent homelessness. $476 for rent needed.

1. Abandoned Single Mom with 4 Kids. Alexandria, VA area. She had been working and supporting the kids, but was laid off 2 months ago. She is behind on rent. She was not eligible for Section 8 before because she was working. Paradise is at the feet of mothers. $1,750 rent needed.

1. Homeless Single Mom with 5 Kids.. Sterling, VA area (temporarily). She is trying to get into section 8 government housing and to get a job. She and the kids need food. Help the homeless and feed the hungry. $300 for food needed.

B. Deliver your cash or check donation in person

1) To the FAITH office at the above address during normal business hours. Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

2) On weekends, you can use the donation box in the FAITH Thrift Store (and shop while you’re there - proceeds serve the needy!). The Thrift Store is located at the address as above. Weekend hours are Saturday 10am to 4:30pm and Sunday 12pm to 4pm. The Thrift Store phone number is 703-766-3396.

3) On the 2nd Friday of every month, a FAITH representative has a table at the ADAMS Center. Donate your cash or check on your way to or from jumuah.

C. Sign up for “Bill Pay” at your bank to make regular monthly donations to FAITH . You arrange with your bank to make FAITH the payee, you designate the monthly amount, and your donations will be automatically sent to us on a monthly basis. You need FAITH’s address which is 500 Grove Street, Suite 210, Herndon, VA, 20170. At most banks this is a free service to you and FAITH is not charged – a win, win solution.
